IN SHORT
Playing for the first time without senior midfielder and co-captain Stephanie Campo, who suffered a concussion during last Thursday’s victory over Rutgers Prep, and with senior midfielder Elise Romano limited as she recovers from a knee injury, the Red Devils could not sustain control over the middle third.

After Ridge controlled play for much of the opening period, Watchung Hills broke through with 11:22 left in the first half as DiPinho took a pass from junior Jess Soldiviero near the right post and skidded a shot into the far corner.

The Warriors extended their lead just under five minutes later on a Monique Goncalves tally, before Watchung Hills put the game away when Jess Heifetz scored in the 16th minute of the second period, and DePinho capped it 30 seconds later when on a penalty kick.

The shutout loss marks just the second of the season for Ridge, which fell to Pingry 3-0 in the season’s third game. The setback also snapped a four-game winning streak, all of which were by shutout.

RED DEVIL OF THE GAME

“Watchung Hills definitely deserved to win the game, but it’s good for us because it’s going to reveal other players that we need to step up, and this is their time to do it.” – Ridge coach Katie Donahue on the aftermath of Tuesday’s setback in Warren
