If you look like your dog at one Basking Ridge event, you win a prize.

Sometimes, charity begins with a little fun.

At least, that's the case for a number of events listed for the upcoming days and this weekend, including The St. James Men of Charity's annual Harvest Fest and N.J. Microbrew Tasting Night to be held this Saturday at in Basking Ridge.

You can also shoot some hoops, enjoy multiple musical events that double as fundraisers and play Texas Hold 'Em while benefiting others. What's not to like?

When/Where:
At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. James School Gymnasium in Basking Ridge.
Why Go:
Because it's a German fest of food and music with microbrew tasting from NJ craft brewers and home brewers. Proceeds help The Men of Charity projects targeted for township neighbors in urgent need. All ages welcome. This year, the focus is on the Rutkowski family, who lost their family to illness.
Pricing: $40.


When/Where:
At 3 p.m. on Sunday at in Basking Ridge.
Why Go:
Because it's a fun filled afternoon of contests and events for all types of dogs and their human companions. If you look like your pet, there's a special contest for you.

$3 per entry.

Ridge Light Opera's Operetta and Musical Theater Show

When/Where: Ridge Light Opera of New Jersey will present its 17th annual Operetta and Musical Theater show, Sept. 22 through 24, at , 140 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge. This year’s show will be fully staged and costumed and feature songs from “The Merry Widow” and “Kismet,” along with cabaret songs. Performances are at 7:30 p.m.

Pricing: Tickets cost $25, or $20 for seniors and students.


When/Where:
At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday at in Bernardsville.  
Why Go:
To click your heels and follow the road to entertainment with the Hexagon Players of Mendham and a few munchkins.

$20. Tickets available at hexagonplayers.org. Cash only at the door.


When/Where:
At 5 p.m. on Saturday for high school participants. At 8 a.m. on Sunday for Men's over 35, and from 10 to 11 a.m. for Men's Open, and Women's Open at the in Bridgewater.
Why Go:
To hit the court with your best shot. Enjoy friendly competition with some 3 on 3 basketball or 3 point shooting contest. Everyone's a winner.
Pricing:
$20 per HS entrance fee. $120 / 3 person team. $160 / 4 person team. $10 per 3 point shooting entry.


When/Where:
At 7 p.m. on Friday at the Soho Lounge at The La Quinta Inn in Somerset.
Why Go:
Because Virgin Vinyl will be joined by two other great bands, High In The Mid 80's and High Maintenance to create a night of music, dance, and giving. Help those who have suffered losses from Hurricane Irene and the flooding rains. All proceeds are being donated to the American Red Cross.

Donations appreciated for cover charge.

 From 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday at in Long Valley.
Why Go:
 Because this concert will benefit women, men and children living with the effects of trauma due to sexual abuse, domestic violence, and/or military violence.

 $10 suggested donation.

 From 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday at in Chatham.
Why Go:
Mothers and their babies can come to this fun, social time and receive expert advice in a safe and supportive environment.
Pricing: Free.

From 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the .
Why Go:
Because you are a beginner who wants to start running, regardless of age.
Pricing:
Free.


Where/When:
 At 8 p.m. on Thursday at the  in Morristown.
Why Go:
Start your weekend off with a nice concert in Morristown.
Pricing:
 $67-$107.


When/Where:
From 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Friday at the in Bridgewater.
Why Go:
To ante up for diabetes with a game of Texas Hold'em, hors d'oeuvres, and a sports memorabilia silent auction. All proceeds to benefit Juvenile Diabetes awareness.
Pricing:
$100 entry fee. ($2,000 in chips)
