Red Devils Seeded 12th in County Softball Tournament
Ridge set to play host to 13th-seeded North Plainfield 11 a.m.Saturday in the opening round
The 2011 Somerset County Softball Tournament was seeded Wednesday evening during a meeting of coaches at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, and Ridge received the No. 12 seed.
The Red Devils will get their tournament started at 11 a.m. Saturday against 13th-seeded North Plainfield at Ridge High School
Ridge was seeded 13th in last season’s tournament, and fell to No. 12 Manville 16-5 in their opening-round contest.

The Red Devils’ last softballtournament win came in as the No. 11 seed in 2009 when they topped Manville 5-1 in the first round.
The Ridge is struggling through an 0-8 season this spring, and the team's coach is looking to get back on track, starting on Saturday.

“Hopefully we can win against North Plainfield so they can get the confidence we need,’’ Ridge coach Tara Cantagalo said. “We have good players, they just haven’t put it together yet.”
After a play-in game Thursday, which will pit No. 17 seed Somerset Tech at No. 16 seed Franklin, the tournament will get going in earnest Saturday, with the No. 9 through No. 16 seeds playing. The No. 5 through No. 8 seeds have a bye into the second round, while the top four seeds won’t play until the quarterfinals.
The second round is scheduled for April 30, the quarterfinals for May 7 and the semifinals for May 14, all at the higher-seeded team. The final is slated for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at the Nap Torpey Athletic Complex in Bridgewater.
