Ridge Boys Fall in State Final

The Ridge boys’ basketball team traveled to Linden Tuesday to face #1 seeded Linden for the North 2, Group 4 state sectional championship.  They knew they would need some luck to take down Linden.  The luck came in the misfortune of Linden star Quadri Moore whose was sidelined with a knee injury.  But it would be enough as Ridge feel by the score of 65-48.

“Our kids had to play a perfect game against a very, very good Linden team,” said Ridge Athletic Director Rich Shello.  “Hats off to them, they played very well.  They are athletic, they defend, they shoot well and we didn’t have our best game.  It just wasn’t meant to be.”

Ridge struggled to get going and fell behind in the first half 36-20.  “A tough first half,” said Ridge head coach Brian Feath.  “I though they shot lights out in the first half and we just dug too deep of a hole to come back from.”

But it was not for lack of trying.  Senior Tommy Chiriaco led all Ridge scorers with 15 points including three 3 pointers and was 4 for 5 from the free throw line.  Sophomore Max Mahoney added eight points and seniors Ryan Byrnes and Kevin Doolan were good for seven points each.

“All in all, it was a great season for my kids,” said Feath.  “I am real proud of them.  They worked real hard; they got better as the season went on.  Nobody expected us to be back here except the guys in the locker room.”

“It was a great group to work with,” added Feath.  “Always team oriented, always unselfish, a lot of dedication and sacrifice.  We bid farewell to our seniors; they meant a lot to us.  They are great kids, fun to work with and fun to be around every day.”
