The no.-15 ranked Ridge High School boys basketball team put their unbeaten record on the line Thursday night against Somerville. Although the home team was never trailing, the Devils faced a much stronger opponent than the team they beat by 51 points just five weeks ago.1st 2nd 3rd 4th FINAL Somerville (7-7) 8 9 5 13 35 Ridge (14-0) 13 14 12 10 49
Ridge led from the opening tip and kept Somerville at bay through most of the game at one point getting the lead up to 19 points. Somerville made a small run in the fourth quarter that gave Ridge a little trouble, but Ridge held on for a 13-point victory.
Leading the Devils in scoring were seniors Eric Klacik with 19 points and Matt Gerrity who put up 13 points.
DEVIL OF THE GAME
Eric Klacik — Klacik had a game high 19 points with four 3-point baskets and went 3-3 from the freethrow line. "I thought Eric Klacik had a phenomenal game," said Ridge head coach Brian Feath. "I thought he was tough on both ends. He made some big shots and kept his composure and didn't force things. He has been very good for us the last eight or nine games."
"It was tough to duplicate the performance from December (Ridge won that game 83-32 at Somerville). But we were expecting a more inspiring game of basketball and we certainly didn't do that for 32 minutes. Some good spots here, some good spots there, but didn't put it together for the entire game. Somerville almost snuck up there and got us. We hit a couple 3's down the stretch and made a some free throws to pull it out, but a game much closer than it needed to be." — Feath
