Ridge Fencers Post Strong Results

Team posts many first and second place achievements at regional fencing championship.

The Ridge High School fencing team, both girls and boys, posted many top placements in last weekend's District 1 fencing championship held this last weekend at Hackettstown High School.

Ridge fencers reached the following achievements: 

Girls and boys fencing team placed second in the District 1 championships.

Boys Epee took 1st place: Matt Yin, Jacob Lee, Nick Tackowiak
Boys Foil took 3rd place: Raychie Tang, Mark Simeon, Bobak Shadpoor
Boys Sabre took 3rd place: Ray Comperiati, Jacob Klein, Brennan Wu

Girls Epee took 1st place: Amy Tong, Amanda Choy, Rita Bianchi
Girls Foil took 2nd place: Christina Tobin, Emily Saul, Gauri Badrish

The following individuals will be heading to the NJ state championships; Bobak Shadpoor, Mark Simeon, Ray Comperiati, Jake Lee and Amy Tong.

Both the boys and the girls have qualified for the state tournament which invites the top 16 boys teams and top 16 girls teams for a direct elimination tournament to determine an overall team champion at the end of the tournament.The finals of the team championship are scheduled for Feb. 27 at Morris Hills High School, according to a team parent.
 
The Squad State Championships are scheduled to be held on February 22 for the girls and Feb. 23 for the boys at North Hunterdon High School.
 
The N.J. individual championships are scheduled March 3, to be held at Montgomery High School, the parent said.
