Ridge Football Loses First Game of Season

Despite comeback, and then taking the lead, the boys in green, and pink, give up season's first loss to Hunterdon Central.

The Ridge High School Red Devils Football team came back from a 21-0 lead held by Hunterdon Central in the first quarter of Friday's home "pinkout" game to tie up the score by the end of the second quarter, and then even take the lead for a while on a touchdown by Mike Sibilia.

But the game was closed out with two final unanswered touchdowns by Hunterdon Central, which wrapped things up with a 42-35 victory over the previously undefeated Ridge.

Ridge's season record is now 7-1. The team already has secured the Mid State 38 Watchung Division.

Hunterdon Central was up 21-0 with that team's 3rd touchdown scored at the 7-second mark of the first quarter.

Visitors Hunterdon Central then kicked off and the ball went into the endzone.  On the next play, Ridge senior Evan Skea took hold of the ball on a handoff 80  yards for a touchdown as the quarter ends.
On the Ridge kick off, Hunterdon Central fumbled the ball and it is picked up by Ridge's Conor Hughes, who ran in for a touchdown to bring Ridge closer to Hunterdon Central's lead, 21-14.

At 7:04 of the second, Hughes threw a touchdown to Nick Franzese to tie the game at 21.

At the 2:00 mark of the second, Mike Sibilia scored on a pass from Hughes to bring the Red Devils up to 28-21, taking their customary lead. But with 1:16 left in the half, Hunterdon Central scored again to tie the game up at 28.
Sibilia scored again in the third to put Ridge up 35-28.  But Hunterdon Central then would score two unanswered TDs to close out the game 42-35.
