Ridge Girls Soccer Continues Winning Ways

Team to face Pingry on Thursday and heading into Somerset County semifinals this weekend.

The Ridge High School varsity girls soccer improved their record to 11-2-2 on Tuesday after earning a 1-0 win against crosstown rival Bridgewater-Raritan on Bridgewater's turf.

Leaving their opponents scoreless means that the Ridge girls have held onto their stingy reputation of giving up only four goals all season.

The Lady Devils took the lead 3:27 minutes into the first half off a goal scored by Junior midfielder Alex Weyrauch, working off of a thrown in Junior midfielder Gigi Cifelli. What turned out to be the winning goal marked Weyrauch's seventh goal of the season.

Ridge's defense, led by senior captains defender Nicole Bates and goalkeeper Rachel Axt, held Bridgewater to three shots on goal the entire eighty minutes.  The result handed Axt her 11th shutout of the season.

This Thursday, the Ridge girls varsity are looking to avenge their previous overtime loss to The Pingry School  at home this Thursday at 4 p.m.

The team also is set to face Watchung Hills Regional High School on Saturday in the semifinal matchup for the Somerset County Tournament.
