Haskel's 2 Goals Lift Ridge Girls Soccer in State Quarters

Team, already Somerset County champions, next moves to semifinal in state playoffs.

The Ridge girls soccer team decisively won the quarterfinal game of the state playoffs at home on Lee Field on a soggy Thursday afternoon, with a 4-1 win over Elizabeth that sets them up for the semifinal game.

Head Coach Katie Donahue said that game will be played against either Linden or Watchung Hills Regional High School, depending on the winner of that matchup.

The team, already Somerset County champions, had started the state playoffs with a shutout win over Piscataway on Monday afternoon.

This time, the girls allowed the visitors one goal. But scoring for Ridge were: Jennie Haskel, assisted by Gigi Cifelli, at 4:45 in the first half and Kelly McWhorter, also assisted by Cifelli, at 7:12 in the first half.

Haskel scored unassisted at 10:49 in the second half, with McWhorter again scoring, assisted by Erin Convery, at 13:59 in the second half.
