Ridge JV Skiers Nab Top Championship Spots

Ridge JV ski team posts great season and also shows promise for next year.

The Ridge High School junior varsity ski team shows great promise for next year after a winning season this year, wrapping up with first place wins at the the JV Championships at Mt. Peter Ski Area in Warwick, N.Y.

The girls, led by junior Alexa Hughes, placed first in all nine races this season, according to information from the ski team. Hughes posted eight first-place finishes and was closely followed by senior Alissa McCarthy. The girls took first place in both slalom and giant slalom races at the JV Championships on Feb. 14.
 
The boys JV team placed first in eight races, led by sophomores Luke Hull, Mike Depalma and Maki Rupert. The boys took second place in the slalom and 1st place in the giant slalom at the JV Championships.

The JV championship results were:

Girls: Slalom, Ridge first, top Ridge girl Alexa Hughes (1)
          Giant Slalom, Ridge first, top Ridge girl Alexa Hughes (1)
          Combined overall: Ridge girls, first place

Boys: Slalom, Ridge second, top Ridge boy Maki Rupert (3)
          Giant Slalom, Ridge 2nd, top Ridge boy Maki Rupert (3)
          Combined overall: Ridge boys, first place
