Ridge Spring Sports Launching With College-Committed Athletes

Ridge sports kick off their spring seasons April 1 with some players already committed to playing their sport at colleges.

Even with a chill still in the air, high school athletes all over New Jersey are string their spring sports seasons next week. Ridge High School's teams have been practicing, playing scrimmages and otherwise working hard to prepare

Many of those teams' key athletes are students who will be playing their last year of high school sports. Some have already committed, or are planning to commit, to carry over participation in those sports in college.

Here are the opening day schedules for the Ridge spring sports and some of the athletes who will be playing their sports next year in college.

The following list was as of Thursday, and additional commitments may be added as they are announced

Girls Lacrosse

The Ridge girls lacrosse team already has five students who will be playing lacrosse for Ridge in 2013 and have pledge to play lacrosse next year in college.

They are: Samantha Brown — High Point University, in High Point, N.C; Andrea Rijo - Amherst College in Amherst, Mass.; Kaitlin Neilands — Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa.; Tara Cuddihy — Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.; and Meagan Quigley — Elon University, in Elon, N.C.

The girls lacrosse team will open up their season at home April 2 against Hillsborough at 4 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse

The boys lacrosse team will be led by six seniors heading to also play college lacross in 2013.

The boys are: Brian Mangione — Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ; TJ Jones — St. Joseph's University, Pa.; Alec Burckley — Towson University, Towson, Md.; Mitchell Gray — St. Joseph's University; Chris Palladino — Gettyburg College; and Eric Scott — Yale University, New Haven, Ct.

In addition to those seniors, two juniors already have committed to play in college: Connor Lalley — University of Delaware, Newark, Del., and Owen Molloy — Notre Dame University, Notre Dame, Ind.

The boys lacrosse team will open their 2013 season home Monday at 4:45 p.m. against Somerville.

Girls Golf

The Ridge girls golf team will have one senior heading to college golf, Hana Ku, who will be attending Princeton University in Princeton.

The girls golf team will play their first rounds of the season against Hunterdon Central Monday at Copper Hill Country Club at 3:15 p.m.

Boys Golf

The boys golf team will have one of their seniors playing golf in college, Joe Gordon will be attending Johnson & Wales University in North Miami, Fla.

The boys golf team tee up their 2013 season against North Hunterdon on Monday at the Basking Ridge Country Club at 3:15 p.m.

Baseball

The Ridge baseball team will send senior pitcher, Dan Moulton, to either Villanova University, Villanova, Pa. or another college where he will participate in college baseball.

The baseball team will start the 2013 season away at Phillipsburg's Athletic Complex Monday at 3:45 p.m.

Softball

Patch was not able to learn of any members of the Ridge softball team who are committed to playing softball in college next year.

The team opens their season against Immaculata Monday at 3:45 p.m. at Diamond Nation in Flemington.

Track Team

Patch was not able to learn of any members of the boys and girls track teams committed to competing in track in college next year.

The teams will begin the 2013 season in a tri-meet on Tuesday at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington beginning at 3:45 p.m. The teams will be competing against Hunterdon Central and Montgomery.

Boys Tennis

Team member Michael Liu is committed to playing tennis at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Ct.

The boys tennis team will serve their first games of the season against Bridgewater-Rartian Monday at Pleasant Valley Park beginning at 3:45 p.m.
