Undefeated Ridge Hockey Wins Rematch Against Watchung Hills

Next up is game against tough opponent Morristown on Tuesday.

Ridge High School ice hockey managed to win a rematch against Watchung Hills Regional in a Friday night contest described as a "very physical game."

The game, played at Bridgewater Sports Arena, ended up going to Ridge 3-2, improving the team's season record at 12-0-1.

The scoring started early and continued through the last minutes of the third quarter, according to information from the team.

Ridge began the game by scoring two goals in the first few minutes, according to information from the team. Watchung Hills responded with one power play goal in the second quarter.

Ridge then scored again in the third to bring it up to 3-1. Watchung Hills again scored a power play goal with about five minutes remaining in the third quarter, according to information from the team. Ridge also had defeated Watchung Hills in a match the previous Friday.

Goals were:

1st quarter:

Ridge — Geoffrey Vogt unassisted
Ridge — Tim Knightly from Dan Giberna and Gary Prine (power play goal)

2nd quarter:

Watchung Hills: Sam Shapiro from Harrison Napell (power play)

3rd quarter:

Ridge — Kyle Leddy from Joe Mandala
Watchung Hills — Mike Tedesco (power play)

The team has a challenging game coming up on Tuesday against the highly ranked Morristown team at 5:45 p.m. at Bridgewater Sports Arena, 1425 Frontier Road.

MSG Varsity television earlier announced that the games that next Saturday's game featuring Ridge High School at Bridgewater-Raritan High School will air at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 on MSG Varsity, Optimum TV Channel 14.

The game against Bridgewater-Raritan is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. at Bridgewater Sports Arena on Saturday. All are asked to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness.
