Video: World Class Riders Speed Through Basking Ridge in Base Camp International Race

The 40-lap race was held on Wednesday on 1.1 mile circuit downtown.

Averaging speeds that would break the speed limit of downtown streets, and then some, a collection of international bike racers navigated the center of Basking Ridge Wednesday night in the Base Camp International race.

In a field that included riders from multiple continents, it was a local cyclist who took the purse. Lisban Quintero from Fort Wayne, NJ finished first in the 44-mile race, clocking in at 1:22.46. Quintero never led the 40-lap race until pouring on an impressive sprint in the last 200-meters to pass the field and win by a couple of feet.

The race, one of just 24 on the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar, drew the top three teams in national standings, James Sutter Home / Colavita, Fly V Australia and Bissel Pro Cycling. Members of the latter two clubs took second and third prizes, respectively.

Australian Alessandro Bazzana, the second place finisher from Fly V, said, "The race was a lot of fun. The course, with lots of turns in a town like it is, was great fun. It was my first time here, so I was having a blast out there." Patrick Bevin of Bissel Pro Cycling took third place honors.

Most criterium-style cycling races on the circuit are set up in a traditional, flat rectangle shape, giving the Basking Ridge course a unique design. Winding through the downtown streets, the course had six right turns and two lefts, and included downhill sections on Brownlee Pl. and Oak St., as well as an uphill climb on N. Finley Ave. back to the starting / finish line.
