4-H Fair to Feature Animals, Farm Equipment, Much More

Escape to the three-day agricultural festival, beginning Aug. 8.

Sometimes there's just not enough days in the week, but every week we'll give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself.

And by this time next Wednesday, we want you to be enjoying the sights, sounds and even the smells of the Somerset County 4-H Fair.

The fair—to be held daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 8 through Aug. 10 at in Bridgewater —will welcome thousands of people to recognize the accomplishments of the more than 1,000 members of the Somerset County 4-H. The free event will allow people to see a wide range of projects being put together by members of the 4-H.

Among the events at the fair will be twirling, go-karts, rockets, magic, line dancing, model airplanes, R.C. cars, model trains and much more from the different 4-H clubs.

For the youngest members of the 4-H, there will be an Arts Tent, Science Tent and Prep Tent, as well as demonstrations and performances.

And for those interested in the animals themselves, there will be tents with dairy cows, beef, alpaca, horses, dogs, herpetology, sheep, goats, poultry, rabbits and small animals. Most of these tents will feature a petting area.

The Somerset County Board of Agriculture will also present antique farm equipment, while local farmers will be giving free hayrides and showing off their modern equipment.

In addition, many non-profit organizations around the county will have displays, information and free gifts. These include Somerset County Government, Raritan Valley Community College, Veterans Services, , Somerset County Library and many more.

Plus, your friends at Patch will have their own table, encouraging residents to sign up for the newsletter and showing what we have to offer, and just saying hello.

If you are looking to get in and out of the fair without having to park your car, free shuttle buses will be running from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. out of the Raritan Valley Community College off Route 28 in North Branch.
