Township Road Construction Projects Starting for Summer

If you find yourself detoured from a local street or required to wait to pass by a road reconstruction project in Bernards Township during this month and next, you're not alone. During July and August, the has scheduled its annual road reconstruction and improvements program on the following streets:

• Cherry Lane and Wildwood Drive [road reconstruction]
• Apple Tree Lane and Fieldview Drive
• Brookside Avenue, Tysley Street, Cottage Avenue, Stonybrook Road, and Glen Avenue
• East Oak Street and Homeland Avenue
• Haas Road
• Tanglewood Lane and Juniper Way (from South Maple Avenue to Manchester Drive)
• Collyer Lane

Construction is scheduled to take place on weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to the engineering department. The projects were set to begin on Thursday, July 5.

However, construction notice signs were already being posted in advance. Local residents can expect to receive written notification from the township engineering department about projects scheduled on their roads.

Since construction projects are weather dependant and all dates and times are subject to change without notice, the township warned.

Some construction activities, including the milling of road surfaces, road reconstruction, and paving will require road closures.

"During this time, vehicular access will be restricted and on street parking is prohibited," the township announced. Residents are being asked to plan for alternate parking or travel arrangements during construction hours.

However, township officials offered assurance that emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times on roads undergoing repairs. The roads will be reopened at the end of each day.

Bruce McArthur has said that the township each year prioritizes roads for repairs or reconstruction. The 2012 list, already approved earlier this year by the Township Committee, is funded by money already earmarked for road projects, and is not financed by borrowing through selling bonds, according to McArthur and other township officials.
