EVENTS: Outdoor Plays Continue, 'Mango Tango' at Library

Pull up a lawn chair and enjoy outdoor theater right in your own backyard, Pleasant Valley Park, and explore the joys of mango at the Bernards Library.

Summer, of course, calls for outdoor events, such as this week's continuation of Plays in the Park at off Valley Road in Basking Ridge. "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" continues this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

But some indoor events also get a summery twist this week. For example, learn how to make sweet, cool mango lassi at the on Thursday night. Or enjoy jazz in the Morristown Library.

Thursday Events at Bernards Library
When/Where: No matter what your age, there's something for you this Thursday at the 32 S. Maple Ave. "Music to Move By"
for ages 3 and under is at either 10 to 10:45 a.m. or 11 to 11:45 a.m. and "Legos at the Library," for ages 5 and up with adults, is from 7 to 8 p.m. The icing on the cake may be "Mango Tango," with information on the "king of fruits" in India. Participants also learn how to make sweet, cool mango lassi!
Why Go: You're lucky enough to live in a town where all this is going on at your library — take advantage of it. Then sign up for summer reading, if you haven't already! And how can you beat making mango lassi at the library on a hot summer day? You can't!
Cost: Free, but register at library website.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Where/When: Show time at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 19, 20 and 21, at the outdoor amphitheater at , off Valley Road in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Because you can see some of the best local theater around in a beautiful setting, as performed by what's become the well-known Trilogy Repertory Co. Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets.

Western and English Rides at Lord Stirling Stable
Where/When: Sunday, July 22, at 10 a.m. for English-style ride and introductory lesson at in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Because you haven't ridden yet, and you'd like to try; or you haven't ridden for a while, and you want a refresher; or because you live in horse country so you figure, just join 'em.
Cost: Official deadline is end of Thursday prior to each ride, registration must be done at stable office, open 7 days at week at 256 S. Maple Ave. Fee $35 for Somerset County residents, $45 for out of county. For more info, call 908-766-5955.

Bernardsville Farmers Market
When/Where
: Saturdays, through the season, at the train station off Mine Brook Road just south of Olcott Square in Bernardsville.
Why Go: Because you can get the bounty of the season, fresh as can be, as well as gourmet goodies. (Hey, this is the Somerset Hills!)
Cost: Free admission, cost of purchases.

Saturday Night Dog Walks at Lord Stirling Stable
When/Where: Meet at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday evening for 7 p.m. strolls with you, your dog and other canine and human friends on the trails at Lord Stirling Stable, 256 S. Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Enjoy time out on the trails — with the dog walks as the only sanctioned walk that allows those on foot (or paws) to explore Lord Stirling's property.
Cost: $3, with pets to be leashed at all times. For more information about the program, call Martha at 973-635-8672.
