EVENTS: The Circus is Coming to Town!

See if you can take a break from holidays and planning for special events (like graduation) with some area activities.

June is the month for special events — weddings, graduations, Father's Day or just planning an outing to take advantage of the return of summer.

However, we do have some ideas for things for you to do and activities to enjoy over the next several days.

Kelly Miller Circus
When/Where: On Sunday, at River Road Park in Bedminster, with shows at 2 and 5 p.m.
Why Go: Presented by and for the Far Hills-Bedminster First Aid Squad, the big top comes to you! Tigers, elephants, camels, clowns, dogs, ponies, aerialists, acrobats and much more. Free at 9 a.m. at River Road Park — watch the Big Top rise to the sky with the help of an elephant.
Cost: Advance tickets are $6 for children and $10 for adults. Same-day tickets will be $7 for children and $15 for adults. Some places to purchase in advance: in Basking Ridge, Somerset Valley Urgent Care in Bedminster and Mercury Trading Co. in Bernardsville.

Habitat for Humanity Benefit Concert
When/Where:
Friday, starting at 6 p.m., with music by local bands until about 11 p.m. at in the center of Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Raise money to help the 's Habitat for Humanity club help others with a basic need — housing! And hear some great music by your friends and many of your favorite local bands.
Cost: $10

Parents Seminar
When/Where:
Friday at 7 p.m. at 403 King George Road, Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Being a parent is hard work! Hear about strategies that work. Life coach, educator and parent of a Ridge High student will talk about dealing with the stressors in today's environment, and to get positive results.

Father's Day Horseback Ride
When/Where:
This Sunday, Father's Day, at 11 a.m. at in Basking Ridge. Check-in at 10:30 a.m. Rides may be added and times adjusted to accommodate extra registrants.
Why Go: Whether you have little or no riding experience, or you want to join on a ride with a more experienced group, you can enjoy this fun sport with your son or daughter. Presented by Friends of Lord Stirling Stable.
Cost: $25 for members of Friends for Lord Stirling Stable, $30 for non-members. Forms available at the stable office at 256 S. Maple Ave., or from the Friends website.

Tween Glow Night
When/Where: Friday at 7 p.m. at Jump!Zone on Jill Court in Hillsborough.
Why Go: For 6- to 12-year-old kids to have an evening of ice cream, glow necklaces and fun!
Cost: $20.

Swimming Lessons
When/Where: Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the .
Why Go: Because the summer is here and we love swimming! The Starfish Aquatic Club will be offering swim lessons to children of all ages through mid August. Visit the website for more information and to register.
Cost: $80 for all lessons.

Open House Swim
When/Where: Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Glenwood Terrace Pool.
Why Go: Because who doesn't want to enjoy a relaxing day at the pool? The Glenwood Terrace Pool will be having an open house for people to spend some time, relax and just take a load off for an afternoon.
Cost:
Free.

Children's Nest Trust Fundraiser
When/Where: Saturday at 10 a.m. at the .
Why Go: Because the Children's Nest Orphanage in Africa lost a large portion of its building to arson recently, and one resident is holding a program to raise money for the organization. The fundraiser includes prizes and games for the kid.
Cost:
Raffle tickets are $1 each.

Father's Day VS. York Revolution
When/Where: Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at .
Why Go: It's time for some baseball to celebrate Father's Day! Head out to the Somerset Patriots stadium for a game against the York Revolution, a Fathers and Kids Catch on the field before the game with baseballs for the first 500 participants and a BBQ apron for the first 1,000 men in attendance. The game also features Prostate Cancer Awareness Day with special fundraising to benefit the Somerset Medical Center Foundation.
Cost:
$9.50, or more based on the seats.

When/Where: Sunday at 2 p.m. at River Road Park on Route 202/206 in Bedminster.
Why Go: Because who doesn't love a circus? It is being held by the Far Hills/Bedminster First Aid Squad, and features tigers, elephants, camels, clowns, dogs, ponies, aerialists, acrobats and much more
Cost:
Tickets purchased in advance are $6 for children and $10 for adults. Same-day tickets are $7 for children and $15 for adults.


When/Where:
Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Kinnelon Public Library
Why Go: To learn about backup software and disinfecting your computer of viruses.
Cost: Free


When/Where:
Saturday at 7:30 at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church in Kinnelon.
Why Go: To see the "Hammer Valentine," "Kodiak Bear," and "The Executioner" wrestle in a professional match.
Cost: $20. Tickets are available at several locations local to the Kinnelon-Butler area, including Taste of Reality Deli, Lakeside Bagels & Deli, Anthony Franco's Pizza, and Giovanni's Pizza.
