Summer Science Programs for 'AWESIM KIDS'

Some opening's remain for summer science activities for children ages 10 to 12 at Somerset County's Environmental Education Center in Basking Ridge.

Enrollment is underway now for the Summer Science AWESIM KIDS (Animals, Wetlands, Environmental Science, and Incredible Minds) being offered for children ages 10 to 12 in two sessions during late July and early August at the county's in Basking Ridge.

The programs will offer multiple ways to entertain and educate children about science, the environment, and the natural world. The program is based from the EEC at 190 Lord Stirling Road.

The remaining programs with openings include "Field, Forest, Farm," scheduled from July 23 through Aug. 3, includig a scheduled overnight trip, said a naturalist at the EEC. The fee is $720.

"Wild Planet," at a cost of $360, runs from Aug. 6 through 10. For updates, call the EEC at 908-766-2489, ext. 330.

AWESIM KIDS  is a unique combination of fun and summer vacation relaxation at which children ages 10 to 12 will enjoy boating, hiking, learning about local wildlife, meeting nature professionals, and going on interesting day trips, according to information from Somerset County.

The sessions focus on the environment and outdoor activities offering hands-on learning and peer leadership opportunities. Participants also get a chance to examine the EEC's natural history collection and to explore the 450-acre Lord Stirling Park property.

The openings remained as of Monday in two of the five naturalist-led and individually themed sessions. Favorite activities like berry picking, canoeing, and swimming repeat throughout the summer.

The usual day at AWESIM KIDS runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
