SUNDAY EVENTS: Triology Reading at Library, VNA Sale, 'Sounds'

Editor's Note: In anticipation of possible thunderstorms, Friday night's Sounds Around Town in Bernardsville has been rescheduled until 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. However, the Art Walk scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday night in Bernardsville is on rain or shine.

On Sunday afternoon, Trilogy Repertory will present a staged reading of local playwright Alan Crossett's  new work "Stone Hill," at 1:30 p.m. in program room at the Bernards Township Library. This full length two act play depicts the 24-hour period in which a dysfunctional family gathers to pay their last respects to their aged patriarch. The play contains adult language.

Crossett, a resident of Peapack-Gladstone, studied playwriting at Rutgers’ Mason Gross School of the Arts and is currently a part of the adult playwriting workshop at Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, directed by John Pietrowski. He is a former English teacher at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge and co-founded Trilogy.

Thes production is directed by Trilogy's Jaye Barre. This event is free and all adults are welcome to attend. For information, call 908-204-3031 ext. 6.

This week marks the return of some fundraisers that might be so useful or fun that you aren't even aware they serve some higher purpose.

There's the annual Lacrosse Classic to raise money for Bryan's Foundation, in memory of township lacrosse lover Bryan Opremcak; the spring VNA Rummage Sale at the Far Hills Fairgound, and an AIDS walk in Morristown.

The Bryan's Dream Lacrosse Classic also will offer close to 100 auction items in Silent and Ticket Auctions, including New York Jets football tickets, a weekend stay in New York City, golf for four with lunch and carts at the Twin Brooks Country Club in Watchung, and more. In addition, there will be a 50/50 Raffle, Kindle fire auction, grill and snack shack, bake sale, ice cream and t-shirts for the occasion — more than just lacrosse.

Sounds Around Town & Art Walk
When/Where: Downtown Bernardsville, music, food & fun, with Sounds Around Town on Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m., moved from Friday's original date. However, the monthly Art Walk in Bernardsville with multiple participants is still on for 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday.
Why Go: Support your local merchants, enjoy music and have fun around town! Sponsored by The Bernardsville Chamber of Commerce.

St. James Men of Charity 5K Run
When/Where: 5K race starting at 9:30 a.m. from , 184 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge. Unless pre-registered, registration from 8 a.m.
Cost: $25 on day of run

BTO Lacrosse Classic
When/Where: Friday from 4 to about 9 p.m. at Mountain Park, 1 Mountain Road, in Bernards Township.
Why Go: A fundraiser for the Bryan's Dream Foundation, established as a celebration and memorial to the late Bryan Opremcak, an avid lacrosse player who would have graduated from Ridge High School last year. The foundation has raised more than $65,000 for the Foundation for support and assistance to children and families affected by pediatric brain tumors, including services at about 25 hospitals. Great soccer action by Somerset Hills Lacrosse Club and players from other towns, along with food, auctions and more.

Cost: Free admission.

Library Programs For Children
When/Where: At the 32 S. Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge. On Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to noon for children's drop-in craft, all materials provided; Sunday, 2 to 3 p.m., Legos@the Library for ages 5 and up with parent, Legos provided.
Why Go: Fun without the need to pre-register. Drop by and enjoy!

When/Where: The will hold its giant spring rummage sale this Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. off Route 202 at the Far Hills Fairground in Far Hills.
Why Go: Get bargain prices from thousands of items in 25 tent "departments" with many unusual and usual (books, clothing, toys, appliances) donations coming from the community. Go early, or go the last day for even further slashed prices. Proceeds support the VNA's nursing programs for uninsured or under-insured patients.
Cost: Free admission, cost of merchandise.

Youth Auction
When/Where: Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the on Union Avenue in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To support the Bridgewater United Methodist Church Youth Organization, which is holding an auction for such prizes as a one-week stay at a Florida vacation condo, a long weekend stay at a home in Vermont, Disney tickets, Papermill Playhouse tickets and more.
Cost: $40 at the door.

Bridgewater Eco-Blast Fair
When/Where: Saturday at 10 a.m. at the , at Kid Street, in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To learn more about sustainable living, learn green practices and to see a talking robot hang out with the crowd.
Cost: Free.

Martinsville Community Center Open House
When/Where: Saturday at 11 a.m. at the center on Washington Valley Road in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To renew your membership at the center, check out what it has to offer, listen to live music and eat, eat, eat!
Cost: Free.

Rabies Clinics
When/Where: Saturday starting at 10 a.m. for dogs, and 11 a.m. for cats at the  on Old York Road.
Why Go: To have your dogs and cats immunized against rabies.
Cost: Free.

Strive for 5K
When/Where: Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Prince Rodgers Complex on Prince Rodgers Avenue.
Why Go: To support the Bridgewater Baseball 12U team in its fundraiser to raise enough money to get to its Cooperstown, New York tournament. This is also part of the Mayors Wellness Campaign in Bridgewater.

Central Jersey Symphony
When/Where: Sunday at 3 p.m at Raritan Valley Community College at the .
Why Go: To see the final concert of the season with two New Jersey artists, violinist Evelyn Estava and cellist Jameson Platte, joining forces on Brahms' Double Concerto. Also on the program is Gabriel Faure's "Pelleas et Melisande" and Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances.
Cost: $20 for general admission, $15 for students and $10 for seniors.
