Bernards BOE Candidates To Be Sworn In, Winter Rec Programs Begin This Week

First Bernards school board meeting of the year is set for Tuesday.

Having switched the election date for Bernards Township Board of Education candidates to November, the school board now is following the tradition of swearing in newly elected candidates at its first meeting of the new year — scheduled for 7 p.m. this Tuesday.

Two returning board candidates are due to be sworn in at the board meeting at the William Annin Middle School.

Board member Elaine Kusel is scheduled to be sworn onto a second three-year term — and veteran Board Member Michael Byrne will be beginning another three-year term after having already served 24 years on the board.

A newcomer to the board, Christopher Viereck, also is scheduled to be sworn in. Board member William Koch had decided not to seek re-election.

The Bernards Township Department of Parks and Recreation also begins many of its winter recreation programs for adults this week. Programs include 40-plus fitness, 30-plus open gym, morning and evening yoga and adult volleyball.

Information is on the Bernards Township website parks and recreation page.

The parks department also is offering discount tickets for ski areas throughout the region and other winter activities. Information is online.

Discount tickets are available only to Bernards Township residents. For more information, call 908-204-3003.
