Man Killed in Mount Air Road Accident in Bernards

Traffic was closed for hours, as rescue workers and police were unable to save the driver of a utility truck killed by a large evergreen alongside Mount Airy Road that swayed on a windy day and cracked before a large portion of the top fell on the passing vehicle. The victim of Jan. 31's fatal tree accident was Douglas McKay, 55, a longtime employee of HW Alward in Bernardsville. Witnesses to the accident said the large tree swayed in the wind before breaking off and toppling on the cab of a passing truck driven by McKay.

Vehicular Homicide Charges Filed in Fatal Head-On Crash

Alcohol that authorities said was detected on Warren woman's breath following Bernards Township accident that killed Bridgewater man and injured his daughter resulted in vehicular homicide charges against Lori Weiss, of Warren. She later was sentenced to five years.

Three Burglaries Reported in Basking Ridge Over Weekend

There have been a number of burglaries reported in Bernards Township this year, and three burglaries that occurred between Saturday afternoon or evening into Sunday morning in three sections of the township late this fall. In two cases, small items such as jewelry were taken, and in the third, the homeowner encountered the intruder, who then ran out of the home.
