'Inspired by LOve' Fundraiser Monday, Lyons Road Detour Due in Place Through Fri.

"Inspired by LOve," with a reference to senior field hockey player Lauren Heaslip nickname of "Lo," invites all to a senior indoor ant hockey Tournament at 7 p.m. on Monday to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The fundraiser is being spearheaded by the coaches and Girls Field Hockey Team from Ridge. All the proceeds from this event will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Heaslip is battling lymphoma and has been going through chemotherapy treatments for almost a year. But "Lo’s 'never give up attitude motivated us to organize this event," said Angel Hand, one of the parents.

The Ridge student has attended almost every single pre-season practice and participated in drills and conditioning, according to information from the team.

"Her persistence through adversity is what high school sports are all about. Lo is an inspiration to our team, and we hope to share that with all the Ridge athletes and the entire Basking Ridge Community," said Hand.

The event is scheduled to be held in the school's new gymnasium. Among other concessionaires, the Ridge Booster Club reportedly will be selling Ridge Clothing at the fundraiser.

Regular ant hockey and floor hockey begins Monday

Meanwhile, kids in kindergarten through grade 5 signed up for the Bernards Township ant hockey and floor hockey programs will begin their 'season' at 6 p.m. on Monday at the William Annin Middle School on Quincy Road in Bernards Township. Details are on the Bernards Township website.

In other school news, Back to School night for sophomores and juniors at Ridge High School, 268 S. Finley Ave., is at 7 p.m. this Thursday.

Road closure on section of Lyons Road continues

Water main construction work began last Wednesday on Lyons Road west of Mount Airy Road (the side nearest Liberty Corner), and the work requires the road to be closed. A detour will be set up, according to Bernards Township officials, who added the job is scheduled to be completed this Friday.

Construction and road improvement projects also were due to start last week on Madisonville Road and Pond Hill Road, with the expectation that the road work will take two to three months to complete. The projects will involve storm drain improvement as well as milling and paving, according to the township website.

During that time, residents should expect both roadways to be closed during daytime hours, the website said. Both roads will be detoured during the duration of the projects, according to the township.
