Ridge Red Devils Head to Rutgers for State Championship, Proposed Mosque Coming Up This Week

The players are stoked, the parents are proud — and the fans certainly are all revved up for this year's unbeaten Ridge Red Devils football team to head to Rutgers stadium next Sunday for the the Group 5, North 2 season championship.

Ridge football fans who've followed their team through their historic season can head to Rutgers University's stadium on Sunday morning for the grand finale — the state final championship game against No. 2 Union. 

This year's team has reached the state final after their Nov. 22 semifinal victory over opponents Linden at home, which Ridge won 28-14 in front of an overflow crowd of local fans.

The game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Dec. 8, at Rutgers Stadium, 1 Scarlet Knight Way, Piscataway, according to the Ridge Red Devils football website.

Earlier this week, the proposed mosque on Church St. in Liberty Corner village will be back on the agenda at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday before the Bernards Township Planning Board.

The applicant, the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge, approached the planning board more than a year ago, with the expressed optimism that all zoning requirements for the project could be met. The applicant has discussed issues with the board and public from parking to drainage, height requirements and more.

Also, on Wednesday, from 4 to 6 p.m., it's the last chance for residents of member towns to obtain flu shots from the Bernards Township Health Department at 262 S. Finley Ave. The shots will be available for ages four through adults.
