Next Three Years of Bernards School Calendars Approved Without Weeklong February Vacation

Parents who presented a petition with 530 signatures calling for a revision of the proposed school calendars for the next three years — and the return of the traditional full-week February vacation instead of just two days off near Presidents Day — said they were disappointed that the school board made no revisions before approving the calendars. But board members said that parents made it clear in a survey last year that they would prefer for school to let out earlier — and also noted that no school calendar will please everyone in the school system, and school families.

Bernards Roads Reported Slick For Evening Commute

There was another reminder that it is indeed winter as snow and sleet made for a slippery evening commute this week.

Believe it or not, the traditional caroling in downtown Basking Ridge on Christmas Eve has been ongoing for 90 years — come by to sing, or play a brass instrument.

Santa Pays Informal Visit to Liberty Corner Village 

This year, instead of a parade that required a permit, there was a reading of "The Night Before Christmas" and some kids and their parents walked to the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church for an informal visit from Santa on a fire truck, courtesy of the Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Liberty Corner Fire Co.

Bill Koch Leaves After 11 Years on School Board

A longtime member of the Board of Education, Bill Koch, voluntarily retires from the board with praise for the Bernards Township school district — and a plea for the reconsideration of random drug testing at Ridge High School.
