Three Burglaries Reported Last Weekend

Burglaries in three sections of the township reported last Saturday and Sunday, with jewelry and cash reported taken, have Bernards Township police urging residents to be careful about locking doors and also about reporting anything suspicious to police.

Newcomer Gets Most Votes, Incumbents Also Elected to Bernards Board of Education

Voters heeded candidate John Groot's request that he not be elected — although he did receive 1,680 votes on last Tuesday's Election Day — and instead re-elected school board members Michael Byrne and Elaine Kusel, along with newcomer Christopher Viereck. Viereck received 2,649 votes, compared with 2,550 for Kusel and 2,527 for Byrne.

Newest Bernards Township Committee Member Said Voters Supported Fiscal Conservatives

Bernards Township Committeewoman Carol Bianchi, already appointed to the Township Committee in August, easily beat her Democratic and Independent competitors in Tuesday's election. But Bianchi noted that township voters backed Republicans at all levels of government, from Gov. Chris Christie to county elected officials.

Food Drive With a Twist: Basking Ridge Organization to Donate Fresh Produce to Food Bank in Somerset County

Curbing Hunger, Inc., based in Basking Ridge, is once again helping those who are hungry in Somerset County, with fresh produce drive to support the Food Bank Network of Somerset County that continues through next week.

The fresh food drive is being conducted online through You Give Goods through Nov. 15, and donors are being asked to go online to purchase fresh apples, oranges, lettuce or sweet potatoes that can be used for a healthy meal, perhaps on Thanksgiving.
