Ridge Marching Band Invites Public to Saturday's 'Gold Star' Show

Bands from multiple area high schools to compete with performances in public forum.

The public is invited to the fourth annual Ridge High School Marching Band Competition to be held this Saturday on the school's Lee Field for a US Bands-sanctioned “Gold Star” show to include performances by seven of New Jersey’s top high school marching bands. 

Ridge, the host band, will perform its 2013 “Across the Universe” show in exhibition at the conclusion of the competition, followed by a surprise act and an awards ceremony.

The event is scheduled to begin at 4:55 p.m. with the National Anthem and conclude at about 8 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the Lee Field gate starting at 3:30 p.m., according ton information from the marching band. The Ridge Marching Band Competition website http://rhsmbc.wix.com/2013 has additional details. The following bands are on the roster and will compete based on their size:

—     Bernards High School – group II A

—     Linden High School – group III A

—     Pequannock Township High School – group III A

—     Mahwah High School – group IV A

—      Watchung Hills Regional High School – group IV A

—      Hunterdon Central Regional High School – group VI A

—      Ridge High School – group IV A

“We are looking forward to welcoming these fantastic bands for a great show of musical and visual display. All bands have invested significant time and effort preparing for the competition," said Han Kieftenbeld, Ridge High School Band Association Chair for the competition event.

He said the event creates a great sense of camaraderie among band students, staff, the parent organization and the local community by promoting our school district and township. "We are proud to host such a sizable event annually, thanks to the tireless support of current and alumni parents, and many business sponsors," he added.

Caption awards for Best Overall Effect, Best Music, Best Visual, Best Percussion and Best Color Guard will be presented. Each band will be seeking to perfect their 2013 show as this competition is their final competitive performance prior to National Championships.

The Ridge High School Marching Band Competition is set up as an entertaining family event with great music, choreographed performances, food and other activities.
