About 100 runners join fundraiser for safe cribs for baby — including this 'scary old man.'
First, to the girl overheard say, "This one old guy passed us and he was wheezing—it was scary": I apologize, I didn't mean to frighten you. But, hey, I passed you! As one of the last runners crossing the finish line in the Keeping Babies Safe 5K Sunday at Harry Dunham Park in Basking Ridge's Liberty Corner section, I was just pleased to have finished ahead of someone (I also shaved about six minutes off the time of my first 5K—last year's Watchung Hills Regional Municipal Alliance 5k). My hat's off to 17-year-old Matthew Davis, of Randolph, who finished the event in 19:14.3, and the amazing Steve Nix, a 58-year-old from Denville who did it in 23:13.7.
