Ridge Senior Wins Bernards PBA Scholarship Award

Annual scholarship award given out Wednesday night.

Ridge High School senior Eric Knapp on Wednesday night received the 2013 Bernards Twp PBA 357 Educational Scholarship Award. Knapp's plans are to study criminal justice at the State University of New York in Albany this fall, according to information from the PBA. The $1,000 scholarship goes annually to a township student who plans to pursue a career in criminal justice. PBA President Ray Gizienski and School Resource Officer John Neiman were at the presentation.

Bernards PBA to Hold Wine Tasting Benefit on Friday

Event at Dolce in Basking Ridge will have wines provided by The Wine Rack in The Hills.

The Bernards Township PBA Local 357 is again holding its annual Wine Tasting fundraiser, to begin at 7 p.m. this Friday at Dolce off North Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge. The event, which benefits the PBA's civic association, costs will serve up an eventing of wines, hors d'oeuvres, and desserts. The benefit provides funds for the PBA's annual scholarship and other community-based initiatives. The wine tasting will feature selections from The Wine Rack in The Hills. Owner Mike DiFabrizio is helping to organize the evening, with Bernards Patrol Officer Tracy Baldassare in charge. For tickets, call 908-719-WINE or email btpba357@gmail.com. Bernards OKs 4-Year Police Contract: UPDATED

Experienced officers would receive average annual increases of 1.66 percent, said township administrator.

Despite prolonged negotiations that went beyond the expiration of the previous contract, negotiators for police and the Township Committee thanked each other for the process of reaching a four year settlement, retroactive to the beginning of 2012, that covers through the end of 2015. The contract with Bernards Township's police unions, approved by the Township Committee at Tuesday's meeting, provides an average increase of 1.66 percent for the officers at the upper levels of the salary guide, said Township Administrator Bruce McArthur. The pact covers 37 officers, including supervisors but not Chief Brian Bobowicz, who is the 38th member of the local police department, McArthur said. Sometimes there's just not enough days to go around, but each week we'll give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself. This Friday, it's time to grab a friend and head over to the Basking Ridge Country Club on Madisonville Road in Basking Ridge for a chance to nibble, sip, shop and socialize at Ladies Night Out. Bernards PBA Awards Two Scholarships

Award goes to two Ridge High School students seeking criminal justice degrees.

The Bernards Township Police PBA recently awarded two Ridge High School seniors a $1,000 scholarship each to help fund their college plans to pursue criminal justice studies Seniors J.D Moore and Ryan Howard were presented with the awards by Ridge school resource officer John Neiman, and Patrol Officer Ray Gizienski. J.D. Moore is planning to attend the University of Delaware and Ryan Howard will go to Winthrop University, according to the PBA. Both are pursuing criminal justice degrees. The PBA award is annual and is open to any Ridge High School senior who is looking to study law enforcement in the college they are attending, Gizienski said.
