9/11—10 Years Later

Bonnie Brae's Field of Flags Remembers 9/11 Victims [VIDEO]

Nearly 3,000 flags visible to those passing by on Valley Road.

Since the middle of last week, those who drive by the Bonnie Brae Educational Center on Valley Road have been able to see a field filled with 2,977 American flags. The school's Field of Flags was officially dedicated last Friday. It was both an occasion of remembrance and a more current thank you for local firefighters, first aid squad members and police. The Bonnie Brae School on Valley Road, which last Tuesday and Wednesday erected almost 3,000 flags to recall each of the victims of 9/11, including 18 in Basking Ridge by one count, later held an official dedication to remember those who lost their lives — and a luncheon to honor emergency workers who continue to assist the school on a regular basis. The event was planned by school …

9/11—10 Years Later

Bonnie Brae's 9/11 Field of Flags

Students place thousands of flags on school property off Valley Road to honor those who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.

Bonnie Brae School in Liberty Corner is marking the ten-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack with a tribute to local veterans, first responders, and those families who lost loved ones in the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. Students at the private school and residential treatment center were busy early this week in time to cover the large front field of the campus with flags. Each of the 2,977 flags represented one the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, said Cathy Phillips, spokeswoman for Bonnie Brae. From Valley Road, the flags are visible on the front lawn of the school's 100-acre property in the Liberty Corner section of the township. Many of the adolescent students residing at Bonnie Brae have only vague memories of the …

Bonnie Brae's Farm Goes Back to School 'Roots'

Students' sustainability project includes large garden on campus in Liberty Corner.

Since its founding almost 100 years ago, Bonnie Brae School has been housed on a farm, first in Livingston, and for the past 90 years, on its sprawling campus in the Liberty Corner section Bernards Township. In fact, the school for adolescent boys from a troubled background started out being known as the The Bonnie Brae Farm for Boys, where residents were expected to contribute by helping out with farm chores. Everything old is new again at the Bonnie Brae Educational Center, with students at the residential facility now actively working on a sustainability project, which includes a large garden on the 100-acre campus. Students have been growing tomatoes, peppers, collard greens and onions. They planted the garden with some help from Joe …

Photos and Video from the Bonnie Brae Scottish Festival, with Sights and Sounds to Behold

24th annual Scottish Festival & Highland Games at Bonnie Brae Educational Center in the Liberty Corner section of Bernards Township.

The Scots (and others as well) returned on Saturday to the fields of Bonnie Brae  Educational Center in Liberty Corner for the 24th annual Scottish Festival and  Highland games, an event that mixed hundreds of bapipers and drummers in kilts  with plenty of food, Highland dancers, dogs and British cars and such uniquely  Scottish games as caber tossing (throwing logs). And of course there were rows of tents selling such specialty items as Scottish  whiskey, tasty Scottish bakery items such as scones and shortbread and  custom-made kilts to order. Another booth offered a spot to check one's Scottish heritage. "They'll tell you all sorts of stories and lies," promised one speaker at the official noon gathering on the main field on the school …
