Stores Closing, Opening at Bridgewater Commons

There are big changes ahead for the mall—what do you think of them?

A number of stores have closed in the Bridgewater Commons Mall, some are moving to different areas and yet another group are opening in the coming year. In the recent months, Bridget’s Irish Cottage has relocated to Westfield, while Joe Fresh, Build-a-Bear Workshop and Wet Seal have all closed down. “Stores that have closed recently have all closed for varying reasons,” said Amy Knorr, marketing manager for the mall. “I can tell you that most vacant spaces, with the exception of one or two, are spoken for, meaning they are in lease negotiations.” The next store to open, Knorr said, is Sephora, which will open June 13 in its expanded space on the lower level of the mall. Also opening this year is House of Hoops and Eddie Bauer. In addition…

Plymouth Rock Assurance is hosting a distracted driving simulation at the Commons Mall.

In an effort to continue trying to make the roads a safer place, Plymouth Rock Assurance is hosting a special distracted driving simulation Saturday at the Bridgewater Commons Mall. The simulation will be held in the lower level center court from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. According to Valerie Simon, director of marketing communications with Plymouth Rock, the program will allow attendees to participate in a simulation-based impaired and distracted driving program. “It is designed to prevent destructive driving behaviors,” she said. “[This is] part of an ongoing initiative to make the state’s roads a safer place by exposing the dangers of distracted driving.” Simon said that research collected by the assurance company found that 88 percent of local…

Bridgewater Investigating Traffic, Parking at Mall

It stems from a plan to construct a standalone restaurant at the mall.

The Bridgewater Commons Mall is currently planning to build a free-standing restaurant in the parking lot of the Bloomingdale's—and the township is looking into traffic concerns. The planning board recently appointed TRC Engineering Inc. to look into possible traffic and parking concerns at the mall. Township engineer Robert Bogart said the study should be coming back to the township in a couple weeks. Representatives from the Bridgewater Commons Mall spoke before the Bridgewater Township Council in February with a request for a change in the developer's agreement to allow for additional expansion. Basically, the change will allow for Bloomingdale's to give up some of its rights for expansion, returning the space to the mall itself for …

Hope it is something like Outback. Don't see the difference of it being free standing or attached to the mall. Either way it would have to take up the same square footage. Surprised that Bloomies is giving up its right to future expansion (see, that square footage is already given up).   more ›

'Decadent' Cupcake Shop Opens in Mall

Crumbs Bake Shop brings twists on classic cupcake flavors.

Frozen yogurt, ice cream—and now the Bridgewater Commons Mall has added cupcakes to its list of confections. Crumbs Bake Shop officially opened its doors April 5, bringing its decadent cupcakes that are larger than your average treat. “Our signature cupcake is about 1.5 times the size of a regular store-bought cupcake,” said Quinn Solomon, publicist for Crumbs. “However, we do have a regular size cupcake, ‘our classic,’ and a small size, our ‘taste size.’” The business, which officially opened in 2003, boasts three signature, and most popular, cupcakes, Solomon said. Those are the Red Velvet, Peanut Butter Cup and Cookies n’ Cream. “Our decadence [is what people enjoy most],” she said. “We have some of the most unique flavors and twists on…

What a great company. Microsoft employees have given over $1B to charitable organizations over the past 30 years! Where are the contributions to our world from Apple, Google and others? And I don't mean contributions that drive revenue but are driven by a desire to better the world without looking for something in return.   more ›

Poll: What Should Open at the Bridgewater Commons Mall?

The mall is planning an expansion and more businesses.

Representatives from the Bridgewater Commons Mall recently spoke before the Bridgewater Township Council with a request for a change in the developer's agreement to allow for additional expansion. Basically, the change will allow for Bloomingdale's to give up some of its rights for expansion, returning the space to the mall itself for future expansion. The plan is to do this in three installments of 10,000 square feet each. Mall representatives said a new restaurant will be coming in to the mall, but declined to say which one. But we want to know what you think. What new restaurant would you like to see come to Bridgewater? Or would you rather see a new store open? Take our poll and let us know what you are thinking, then tell us in the …
