Flu Vaccines Few, Far Between in Somerset Hills

Some area pharmacies are expecting more vaccines to arrive, but don't know when.

Deaths caused by influenza in 2013 reached epidemic levels late last week, according to a report in the New York Times, but the government-run Center for Disease Control (CDC) says it may have peaked. Either way, the organization says those who have yet to receive a flu shot should still do so, as the current outbreak continues to work its way through the country. The height of flu season is February, according to the CDC. The good news, pointed out Bernards Township Health Officer Lucy Forgione, is that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the flu vaccine is a very good match for the strains of flu circulating in the community and early data indicates that individuals who are vaccinated have been 62 …

CVS Set to Open in Bernardsville Later This Month

Chain pharmacy and retail store will fill long-vacant space left by ShopRite Annex.

CVS Pharmacy is due to open on Jan. 27 in a space of about 7,000 square feet that was left vacant by the closing of ShopRite Annex about a decade ago. The store, at 107 Morristown Road (Route 202), is in the center of Bernardsville's commercial zone. CVS received approvals from the Bernardsville Planning Board at the end of 2011. "We are very happy to see the new store, and the new facade, and they have done a great job of improving the site," said Bernardsville Councilman Joseph Rossi. He said he believed the vacant space — empty for at least a decade — had been a detriment to the town.
