Lunches Still Sought for Displaced Sandy Residents

Bernardsville woman continues efforts to bring hand-packed food to those who are still struggling after storm in Staten Island.

It may be well over a month since Sandy brought storm surges and howling winds to this region, but you might not know that looking at parts of Staten Island, N.Y. "Many parts of Staten Island look like the storm hit only days ago, not weeks ago," said Cathy Fersini-Campitiello of Bernardsville, who has been transporting hand-packed bagged lunches to her former home borough since after Thanksgiving in late November. "The food is still greatly needed," she said this week, after continuing to extend the time she has been delivering lunches to spots where Sandy victims are displaced or homeless. Bernardsville Woman Seeks Help With Sandy Lunches

Staten Island, N.Y. native bringing food to her home borough for those still left homeless or struggling after storm.

Cathy Fersini-Campitiello, a Bernardsville resident and Staten Island native, still is seeking local volunteers to help her pack 20 bagged lunches to contribute toward those she has been delivering on a daily basis to residents in her home borough whose homes and lives were "devastated" by Sandy. Fersini-Campitiello, whose husband works in Staten Island, has been delivering lunches along with moral support since the beginning of the week. "The devastation is sickening," she said of the people she had visited. "It is a humbling sight. They were so appreciative of the food we brought today and are in need of so much more," she said on Tuesday.
