Video, Photos, Story: Basking Ridge Celebrates 250 Years of Memories

Weekend celebration marks birthdays of township, Ridge High.

No one could ever accuse Basking Ridge native Mary Lewis Kinnan of lacking courage. Kinnan, a 19th century resident who moved to western Virginia and was kidnapped by Indians before her eventual return home, was just one of the local folk whose stories and memories were retold during last weekend's Celebrate Bernards "250 Years of Memories." The presentation at Ridge High School, held Friday night and Saturday afternoon, was one of this year's special events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the township of Bernardston. The two-hour show was produced by school Social Studies Supervisor Kristin Fox and volunteers from the community along with the 250th Anniversary Task Force. At Long Last, Ridge Becomes Somerset County Champ

Ridge finally gets the monkey off their back with a 63-52 victory over Gill St. Bernard's to win the Somerset County Tournament after two failed attempts the past couple seasons.

You saw it in their eyes. You heard it in senior Nick Cefalo's voice. You saw the exuberant Ridge bench after the mission was completed. Four years of program building by Coach Mark Taylor and the team's seven seniors culminated in what they've worked so hard for: The Ridge Red Devils are Somerset County Tournament Champs–finally. The Red Devils (21-5) fought off a game Gill St. Bernard's squad 63-52 Saturday afternoon at the William Westfield Gymnasium on the campus of Franklin High School to win the county championship after losing in the title game the past two seasons.
