Those looking for a chance to enjoy several varieties of hearty chili and tasty chowder now have a good reason — St. James Men of Charity will host the organization's annual Chili & Chowder Cook-off for Charity at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the St. James school gymnasium off South Finley Avenue. There are almost 30 entries into the cook off, including local restaurants, said Paul Mattiola, chairman of this year's event. Tickets will still be available for $40 at the door the night of the event, he said. Admission price includes all food and drink. Babysitting will be offered on site for an additional $10 per family. What better way to warm up on a cold winter's night than with chili, chowder and friends at the fourth annual St. James Men of Charity's fourth annual Chili and Chowder Cook-off for Charity? Those who attend will be able to sample competiting entries for best chili and chowder at St. James Roman Catholic Church on South Finley Avenue, just south of Basking Ridge Center, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Jan. 28. As of Tuesday evening, 18 chili and 12 chowder entrants had signed up, said organizer Chris McManemin. He said that number will probably grow to about 40 total entrants by the 28th.
