Chris Christie: The New Boss?

Governor hailed as hero following Sandy, says he's 'more ready' to consider presidential run.

Gov. Chris Christie has been considered by some legislators and constituents to be somewhat of a hero for his response and leadership following Superstorm Sandy. But now that the storm has passed, the governor is looking toward the future and a potential run for presidency, according to a Time magazine article, "The Boss," about the state's leader. As Republicans look to place a strong candidate in the 2016 presidential election, Christie may be their choice. But state Democratic leaders said there is much the governor has still not delivered on during his tenure. Despite rumors that he was planning to run for president in 2012, Christie publicly announced several times over that he did not have intentions to run. Now months later, after …

Gas Rationing May End Monday

Governor says the rationing has worked

Gov. Christie says he may lift gas rationing on Monday. The governor, speaking at a press conference in Seaside Park on Friday, said the rationing has worked well and eased congestion at gas stations. But he expects all power to be restored by Sunday, so rationing should therefore end. Drivers in the following counties are now limited on the days in which they can fill up their gas tanks: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren. According to the state, plates ending in an even number can fill up on even numbered days of the month, while plates ending in an odd number can fill up on odd numbered days of the month. The number to look for is the final numerical digit …

Power Fully Restored to NJ by Sunday, Christie Says

Governor also praises National Guard at press conference in Somerset.

Gov. Chris Christie praised the National Guard's work in New Jersey during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, and reportedly said he expects all power to be restored to the state by early Sunday. Christie spoke at a press conference on Thursday, flanked by members of the National Guard at an armory in Somerset.  "I wanted to come here and thank these men and women as an example of the over 2,200 National Guardsmen I ordered activated in the prelude to Hurricane Sandy," Christie said. "They have done an extraordinary job." Christie addressed a number of issues still plaguing the state, including power outages.  Christie said as of Thursday morning there were 390,746 customers without power in the state, an increase of about 19,000 from …

Christie: I Did Not Embrace Obama

'I'm a guy who tells the truth all the time and if the President of the United States did a good job, I’m going to say he did a good job.'

A day after President Barack Obama earned reelection, Governor Chris Christie dismissed critics who have accused him of bolstering the president during Obama's post-Sandy visit to New Jersey. “I wouldn't call what I did an embrace of Barack Obama," Christie said. "I'm a guy who tells the truth all the time and if the President of the United States did a good job, I’m going to say he did a good job." Speaking to reporters as Winter Storm Athena prepared to batter the already storm-shocked state, Christie was also quick to dismiss speculation of a 2016 presidential run, saying that the life and death issues inherent with back-to-back storms have made politics a minor focus for now. “I've got a job to do in New Jersey. My future, whatever it …

Christie Blasts Romney Staffers As 'Know-Nothing, Disgruntled'

Gov. Christie said Mitt Romney's staff had spread a false rumor that he had turned down an opportunity to campaign for the presidential candidate.

Gov. Christie dismissed rumors that he had turned down an opportunity to campaign for presidential Mitt Romney in Pennsylvania, saying the story had been spread by "know-nothing, disgruntled Romney staffers who don't like that I said nice things about the President of the United States." Christie was in Westwood Tuesday to speak about New Jersey's recovery from Hurricane Sandy. The governor had previously praised President Barack Obama for the support the federal government had given to the state after the storm devasted coastal areas. Christie explained that he had spoken with Romney before Sandy hit the state last week. Romney had asked him to join him at an event, but Christie told Romney that he would not be able to help if Sandy …

Nor'easter Could Cause More Power Outages, Governor Warns

Power has been restored to millions of customers since Hurricane Sandy caused damage across the state, but a new storm could undo many repairs.

A Nor'easter headed toward New Jersey could slow the cleanup from Hurricane Sandy and even cause more power outages, Governor Chris Christie said Tuesday. Forecasters have predicted the storm will hit New Jersey Wednesday and could bring gusts of 50 or 60 miles per hour. Crews cleaning up from Hurricane Sandy and restoring power are not allowed up in their bucket trucks if winds hit 40 miles per hour or more. "If you've gotten power, some of you may lose power again," Christie said. More than 11,000 crews have been working to restore power in New Jersey since Hurricane Sandy caused outages for about 2.76 million customers across the state. As of Tuesday morning, Atlantic City Electric had about 100 percent of their customers back on, …

Christie: Go Back to Work, Open Schools, Calm Down

Governor Chris Christie and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano visited Hoboken on Sunday, urging residents to get their lives back to close to normal.

The state should be as good as back to normal by the end of next week, Gov. Chris Christie said during a press conference in Hoboken on Sunday afternoon. "A week ago today we were prepping for the storm to come tomorrow," Christie said. "It's going to be a long and difficult process to get us back to normal." Christie urged school districts to open on Monday if possible and people to go to work. New Jersey Transit has increased buses — about 200 more between New York and New Jersey — for the Monday morning commute. New Jersey Transit restored 90 percent of its bus service as of Sunday afternoon and four of its rail lines had begun running again. "People should go back to work tomorrow," he said. All roads — except four by the barrier …
