Holiday Tree Now Up in Downtown Basking Ridge

Tree was donated by Basking Ridge family will grace downtown until after New Year's.

In the end, the tree chosen by the Basking Ridge Fire Co. to fill the town center in downtown Basking Ridge was a slightly Sandy-damaged evergreen that had been the number two candidate even before the storm arrived. On Saturday morning, volunteers from the fire company and first aid squad cut and carefully transported the tree from the home of Steve and Maggie Aloisio on Annin Road to the center of Basking Ridge. It was trucked to the center of town, in the tree's usual honorary spot on a small square in front of The Presbyterian Church of Basking Ridge, where it was anchored and strapped into place. Power Restored for 600 in Downtown Basking Ridge

JCP&L estimated power outage, caused by broken pole, would be restored by 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Power was restored shortly before 11 a.m. for 601 JCP&L customers in downtown Basking Ridge and the surrounding area without power around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday,  Bernards Township police confirmed. The cause had been identified as a broken pole top in the downtown, according to a spokeman for the company. JCP&L Spokesman Mike Obremski had said earlier crews were en route to the scene to fix the problem. "The crews should be there shortly," he said. Obremski said the issue was caused by continuing problems surrounding the after-effects of Superstorm Sandy. "The system is a little weakened," he said. "We are bringing in additional folks to work on the problems." Obremski said power was estimated to be restored at approximately 11:30 a.m. …

I doubt we have to wait for the next storm. The norm in the Basking Ridge section is to be unpleasantly surprised by power outages, at random times, during the last 30 years. It is time for real mitigation from the private sector. Bury the lines, or whatever it takes, to protect us.
