250 Bags of Heroin Seized in I-78 Traffic Stop, Authorities Say

Two Phillipsburg residents arrested, one held in county jail.

Two Phillipsburg residents were arrested Tuesday on multiple drug-related charges after 250 bags of heroin, a marijuana cigarette and other drug paraphernalia were found during a motor vehicle stop on Interstate 78 in Bernards Township, county and township authorities said. Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano and Bernards Township Police Chief Brian Bobowicz announced the arrests of Matthew Castiglia, 27, and Christine Synnott, 26, of Phillipsburg. According to the county prosecutor's office, at about 3:46 p.m. Tuesday afternoon the chief pulled over a 2001 Hyundai Accent being driven by Synnott along I-78 after the vehicle allegedly was impeding traffic by failing to keep right. Basking Ridge Man Faces Drug Charges

Crown Court Drive resident allegedly caught with cocaine, prescription pills in Bedminster.

A Basking Ridge man was caught Tuesday with approximately $1,000 worth of narcotics in a Bedminster restaurant parking lot, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. Jorge Luis Tello-Iturbe, 56, of Crown Court Drive, was charged with three counts of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, two counts of second-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park and one count of fourth-degree obstruction of justice. Kentucky Woman Arrested on Drug, Traffic Charges

Bernards Township police said a 25-year-old Kentucky woman whose vehicle was stopped on Martinsville Road because it lacked license plates also has been charged with marijuana possession and related charges. The woman, Brenda Hale of Corbin, Ky., is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper display or fictitious license plates and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, according to township police. Police said Bernards Patrol Officer Christopher Baxter pulled over the 2003 Chevy being driven by Hale at 6:25 p.m. last Saturday on Martinsville Road near Interstate 78. Baxter had stopped the vehicle because allegedly no license plates were displayed on the vehicle, police said…

Hunterdon County Driver Charged With Heroin Possession

Afternoon stop on Martinsville Road was conducted because of apparent malfunctioning brake light.

Bernards Township police say a 27-year-old resident of Glen Gardner, in Hunterdon County, has been charged with heroin possession and related charges, as well having a broken brake light on his car that was the reason police say his vehicle was pulled over. According to police, Anthony Krise, 27, of Glen Gardner, now faces charges of possession of heroin, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and failure to maintain the vehicle light. Township police said that the vehicle, a 1992 Ford Taurus, was pulled over by Patrol Officer Chris Baxter at about 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, after Baxter noticed that the car's brake light allegedly was not working. Police: Heroin, Marijuana Found Inside Car on I-78

Two New York residents were in vehicle pulled over early Tuesday morning, police said.

Two residents from Queens, N.Y., face varying charges after township police said the vehicle was pulled over early Tuesday morning for a supposed unsafe lane change, and a police search allegedly yielded 300 individual wax folds containing heroin. Township police said Tomas Beltre, 21, from Corona, N.Y., is charged with third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, and also possession of less than fifty grams of marijuana, a disorderly person offense. Sarah Taveras, 20, also from the Corona section of Queens, was issued motor vehicle summonses for unsafe lane change and for unsafe tires and then released, according to the township police report.
