Head to the Streets for Charter Day, With More Fun On Way

Leash manners for your pets and other events give you something to do all weekend.

If you possibly could have avoided seeing the banners in town, or hearing children talk, here's the news — this Saturday is the return of Charter Day, Bernards Township's annual celebration of the founding of the township of Bernardston by order of British King George II in 1760. While you can learn about history, there are also plenty of purely entertaining things to do at this day and night-long annual event, including hearing music and dancing in the street, sliding down a blow-up slide, picking up loads of freebies and stuffing yourself with treats like fried oreos and a gourmet meal (this is the Somerset Hills, after all). You can also learn about local organizations. Then, on Sunday, it's off to Bernardsville for that town's street …

St. James Dance, Spring Plant Sales Coming Up

Paws for Reading also returning to Bernards Township Library in upcoming events.

As Mother's Day approaches, many people will spend at least some time with their mom, grandma or some other important woman in their lives. But over the next several days, leading into next week, there's plenty of other things to do, either on your own or with friends or family members. It's time to have some fun listening to music and/or dancing. As often in the Somerset Hills, some of the most enjoyable activities also are fundraisers for worthy causes. And spring is here, so it's time to go look for some plants to cultivate whether to surround yourself with flowers — or edibles. As usual, please add any events in comments that you feel may be of interest to our readers. St. James Youth Dance When/Where: Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. at 8 a.m…

The VNA's three-day marathon rummage sale officially opens its doors at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and runs through Sunday. You can also learn what's just been discovered recently about how important the Somerset Hills was during the American Revolution. Along with a workshop on Japanese Manga drawing, other events at the Bernards Township Library are listed on the library website. And don't forget to take some time to laugh at a …
