Farmstead Postpones Saturday's 'Light the Way'

Event was scheduled to be held 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Vine Restaurant in Basking Ridge.

Editor's note: The following letter is written regarding an event that would have been a fundraiser for the English barn and installation of professional gallery lighting at the Farmstead Arts Center in Basking Ridge. Dear Friend of the Farmstead,   After much discussion and thought the Friends of the Kennedy Martin Stelle Farmstead decided to postpone Light the Way which was scheduled for December 8.  The damage sustained on the Farmstead grounds after Hurricane Sandy caused us to change the date and venue. We soon learned that due to other commitments and the personal losses of our vendors that we would not be able to present many of the unique vendor items for sale at the event. Guitar Duo Starts Season at Farmstead Arts [VIDEO]

Guitarists present program of varied music before intimate audience in historic farmhouse.

The Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo kicked off the year's concert series at the Farmstead Arts center in Basking Ridge, will a Sunday afternoon performance of perform of classical Spanish and Latin American guitar music. The husband and wife guitar duo, from Pohatcong Township, will be followed by additional concerts this year at the township-owned arts center, interspersed with continuing art exhibits. Organizers said that work on an historic barn on the property means that this year's concerts will not be held on a monthly basis, and some months could be planned later in the year. A wide choice of things to do in the upcoming days, no matter what your particular passions.

Along with events around town, those who want to celebrate the Wearing 'o the Green may want to head to this Saturday's St. Patrick's Day parade in Morristown, one of the biggest in the state. And, hey, it's closer than New York. For continuing previews and coverage of the Morristown parade, check the Morristown Patch. Four Artists Open Exhibit at Farmstead Arts

Public invited to opening of original works by four artists from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Farmstead Arts.

The Farmstead Arts in Basking Ridge kicks off its Contemporary Art Exhibit and Sale with an opening reception from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The reception will provide an opportunity to meet the four artists whose work will be on display from March 4 through April 22 at the arts center at 650 King George Road. The show will include original works in oil and watercolors by Dorothy Siclare of Millington, Maryann Ficker of Bridgewater, Linda Lam of Bridgewater and Rosalia Tignini Verdun of Roselle. Gallery hours will continue through the duration of the exhibit and sale on Saturdays and Sundays between 1 to 4 p.m. each weekend, except March 11, March 24, and Easter. VIDEO: Jazz Artists Return to Farmstead Arts Concert Series

Local artists perform musical numbers from the Great American Songbook.

The Farmstead Arts resumed its concert series with guitarist Arturo, vocalist Kanttara, and cornetist Rich Gradone. The trio performed original arrangements of vocal standards including Brazilian bossa novas, jazzy pop tunes, and selections from The Great American Songbook. Area Children Can Join Community Painting Project

Children can fill out mural-sized canvas during ARTsee tour planned for Oct. 2.

Area children ages four and up are invited to artist Caren Frost Olmstead's home studio at 18 South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge to participate in a community painting project between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2. The event will will be part of the first ARTsee open studio tour in which participants can visit the private studios of artists from Bernardsville and Basking Ridge. Acrylic paint will be used by the children to fill out a mural-sized canvas that has been planned out in advance to inspire artists of all level of ability. The canvas is 8 feet by 4.5 feet in size. Farmstead Arts Show Sets Stage for Studio Tour

Exhibit will continue through Aug. 20, in preparation for first Bernardsville-Basking Ridge Art Studio planned for Oct. 2.

When photographer Mahvash Saba moved from New York to Basking Ridge a few years ago, she said she missed the camaraderie and networking opportunies offered by a local community of artists. No more. Almost two dozen area artists, mostly from Basking Ridge and Bernardsville, displayed their work on Sunday afternoon at the launch of the ARTsee Sneak Preview Exhibit and Sale, to run through Aug. 20 at the Farmstead Arts farmhouse at 450 King George Road in Basking Ridge. Saba was on hand at the show's public reception at the township arts center on Sunday afternoon, where she met the public and displayed her large, evocative portrait of a cut pomegranate.
