N.J. State Police say fatigue may have been factor in one-car accident early on Wednesday morning.
A 51-year-old man who was not wearing a seat belt was killed early Wednesday morning after being ejected from his van that careened off two guardrails and struck a concrete bridge overpass support on Interstate 78 westbound in Bedminster, State Police said. David Pandorf, of Phillipsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 5:30 a.m. crash, according to the state police report. According to State Police, Pandorf's white 1996 Ford van veered off the highway to the right, hit a guardrail and then returned to cross the highway and exit left onto the median. Over the course of one minute and 42 seconds, several pilots reported icing conditions, with Air Traffic Control noting "severe" icing conditions at 14,000 feet. Pilot Jeffrey F. Buckalew asked about these conditions during the communications and then signed off. It would be the last communications he would make to Air Traffic Control before his plane, also containing a business associate, his dog, and his wife and two children, crashed onto Route 287 in Morris Township on Dec. 20.

UPDATED: Several police agencies, including Bernards, involved in pursuit of stolen motorcycle.
A high-speed pursuit of a stolen motorcyle through several counties ended early Tuesday morning when the alleged thief was killed after crashing into the guardrail on the Interstate 287 northbound entrance ramp in Bedminster, state police said. According to State Police in Somerville, the pursuit began on Interstate 78 in Newark and reached speeds up to 130 miles per hour before the fatal crash on I-287 North at 4:06 a.m. State police later said the stolen vehicle was a Suzuki motorcycle and identified the dead man as David F. Coleman, Jr., 23, of Maplewood. Multiple police agencies, including officers from Bernards Township, were involved in the pursuit along I-78 westbound, state police said.
