A Fundraiser Draws Support, Both Financially and From the Heart

Runners and walkers participate in a 5K race, "Pump It Up for Platelets" at Pleasant Valley Park in Basking Ridge,

Even in the midst of a heat wave, near to 100 people came out Sunday to Pleasant Valley Park in Basking Ridge to walk or run at 5K for the second annual "Pump it Up for Platelets" fundraiser. Many of those who came were remembering a young man who was a friend, a classmate or a co-worker on a special project. For Susan Anderson of Bridgewater, the day was a chance to share memories of her 18-year-old son, Erik Anderson. Erik suffered from a rare condition, a blood platelet discorder known as Immune Thrombocyepenia (ITP.) The Bridgewater-Raritan High School student, who would have graduated in June, had passed away in May from complications of a bone marrow transplant that he had because of another immune disorder.  Just last fall, Erik …

Over that same period, the fight against pancreatic cancer hasn’t seen the same advancements. I’ve seen this firsthand, losing my father to the disease nine years ago. With no early detection method or cure, he fought a losing battle with this insidious disease. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of …

Natirar County Park in Peapack-Gladstone is location of one of the largest fundraising events in the Somerset Hills Area.

Once again, Miles for Matheny was on Sunday held at Natirar County Park as one of the largest fundraisers and community get-togethers in the Somerset Hills area. The event, reported in "Miles of Smiles" on Sunday in the Basking Ridge Patch, attracted about 1,600 participants and spectators to the park in Peapack-Gladstone. Many residents from towns in the Somerset Hills — including Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, Bedminster and Peapack-Gladstone — took part one way or another.
