Each week, Patch will tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, and maybe a whole lot more enjoyable. This week, we're letting you know that it's time to shed those winter blahs and register for spring horseback riding lessons at Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, a Somerset County facility. So while you may spend most of your day as a mom, an office employee or even hitting the books as a local student, all you need to do is to climb into a saddle, pick up those reins, and _ you've become an equestrian! 'I Love Horses' Valentine Introductory Ride in Basking Ridge

Somerset County's Lord Stirling Stable introduces new Valentine's "I Love Horses" introductory ride.

Somerset County's Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge will host its first “I Love Horses” Valentine Introductory Ride next Sunday, Feb. 12, for a guided tour and western-style ride along the stable's scenic trails that is suitable for those with little or no riding experience. The time-honored romance between riders and their steeds is the reason for this celebratory ride, just a few days before Valentine's Day. Check-in time for this ride is 1 p.m. on Sunday, and the ride itself is scheduled for 1:30 to 3 p.m Lord Stirling Stable is located at 256 S. Lord Stirling Registering for Winter Riding Lessons

Registration started; classes to begin week of Jan. 2.

Registration has already begun for the upcoming sessions of winter horseback riding classes to begin the week of Jan. 2, 2010, at the Somerset County Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge. As of this past weekend, the Somerset County Park Commission began filling openings in its schedule for junior (ages 9 to 17) and adult riding lessons, with most sessions to run for ten weeks. Lessons at the stable and property with equestrian facilities and trails, located at 256 S. Maple Ave. will accommodate all riders from absolute beginners through more advanced levels with jumping experience. Somerset County's Lord Stirling Stable offers opportunities for a brief getaway on horseback or just wandering along trails with your best (canine) friend on early fall days.

Fall is a magnificent time to be out on trails through woods or fields, and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, part of the Somerset County Park Commission, is offering that chance whether you are on horseback or strolling alongside your best friend (the canine kind). More Summer Events at Lord Stirling Parks in Basking Ridge

Cooler evening hour for dog walks; nature walks through September; summer moonlight horse ride.

The ever-popular Saturday Dog Walks at Somerset County Park Commission Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge are being continued through the summer months, although the time has been moved from morning to a cooler evening hour. The event — among others being held at the county park commission's Lord Stirling parks in Basking Ridge — will be hosted on a weekly basis at 7 p.m. by the Friends of Lord Stirling Stable. Check-in time for pets and their owners will begin at 6:45 P.M. every Saturday at the stable at 256 S. Maple Ave. The guided trail walk will commence at 7 p.m. and last for approximately one hour. Registration is $3 per dog and all pets must be leashed and kept under control at all times. These sanctioned Dog Walks offer …

Try Introductory English-style Riding Lesson at Lord Stirling

Registration underway now for one-session lesson at Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge.

Registration now is underway through next Thursday for those considering English-style riding lessons at Lord Stirling Stables to give it a try with a one-session introductory lesson scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 10. The mini-group lesson will be given one of Lord Stirling Stable's instructors, to be followed by a one-hour guided trail ride through the park's trail system. The stable is at 256 S. Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge. The fee is $32 for Somerset County residents and $40 for out-of-county residents.
