Parade to Honor Celebrated Somerset County Marine

This weekend's events to include a 5K run, Marine Band Concert and more leading up to Basilone Parade.

Sometimes there's just not enough days to go around, but every week Patch will give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself. I attended this parade last year. I am very impressed at the Borough of Raritan for keeping up this tradition in honor of their hero. Kudos to the actor that portrayed Basilone in "The Pacific" as he was among the parade participants.   more ›

Somerset County's honored World War II Marine, John Basilone, will be remembered in weekend of events leading to annual parade Sunday in downtown Raritan Borough.

Each week, the Basking Ridge Patch will tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot more enjoyable. This weekend is the annual time to honor Somerset County's John Basilone, who is the only enlisted Marine to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross for his valor during World War II, as well as the only one to return to action after winning the Medal of Honor. He later was killed in action. The late Raritan resident is honored with a parade and other events every year at this time, as residents from Bridgewater, Raritan and the surrounding Somerset County towns honor the brave Marine. Basilone also has a field named after him at the Bridgewater…
