GOP Incumbents to be Sworn In for Twp. Committee

Carolyn Gaziano and John Malay, re-elected in November, will begin new terms.

The Bernards Township Committee will retain its all-Republican status for 2013, with the swearing in of two GOP committee members who already have been serving — Carolyn Gaziano, returning for a second three-year term, and John Malay, re-elected last November to his fourth term. The township's annual reorganization meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at the township municipal complex. After being sworn in, Gaziano, deputy mayor in 2012, is expected to be appointed as mayor for 2013 by her fellow committee members. It will be her first term as mayor. Editor's note: The following is a transcipt of the speech presented at the Township Committee's Tuesday reorganization meeting by John Malay, township mayor for 2011. Under Bernards Township's form of government, the mayor is each year appointed by the other members of the Township Committee. Malay this year continues in the role of Township Committeeman. Good evening everyone. Thank you for coming. I hope you enjoyed the holidays and are ready to move into 2012. My year as mayor was an eventful one, but one I enjoyed. Mayor John Malay Issues Reverse 9-1-1 Message with Irene Update

Road closings as of Thursday afternoon reduced to three.

A reverse 9-1-1 call through the county's emergency dispatched system, and placed by Mayor John Malay, confirmed to residents that full power is back on at the township municipal building and police department at 1 Collyer Lane as of Thursday. As of 7:17 p.m. on Thursday, JCP&L was reporting the number of power outages in Basking Ridge at 428 in Basking Ridge, down from more than 2,600 a few days earlier, and still at 925 in Bernardsville, down from in excess of 1,300 in a borough with about 2,300 homes. Malay's recorded message also said that as of that afternoon, the number of township roads blocked off by downed trees and power lines or other safety issues was reduced to three; at least parts of Lyons Road, Lord Stirling Road and …
