Deadline extended for second annual Tannenbaum family scholarship at Somerset Hills YMCA in Basking Ridge.
The Somerset Hills YMCA in Basking Ridge, where former N.Y. Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum remains on the Board of Directors, announced on Wednesday that the deadline has been extended for YMCA members who wish to apply for this year's Tannenbaum family scholarship. Also on Wednesday, it was reported that Tannenbaum, who lost his job as general manager of the New York Jets last New Year's Eve, has been named to a new position that he will manage from New York. According to a Wednesday report on Forbes.com, Tannenbaum will represent and oversee contract negotiations for basketball and football coaches for both professional and college sports. Basking Ridge resident Mike Tannenbaum was fired Monday as New York Jets general manager after 15 years with the team. After missing the playoffs for the second straight season, the Jets dismissed Tannenbaum in an early-morning meeting at their Florham Park practice facility, according to ESPN. Tannenbaum became emotional when he read a farewell letter to the team after his firing, ESPN reported. The team then applauded Tannenbaum, who began his Jets career as a salary-cap manager under Bill Parcells before becoming the GM in 2006.
