All Lanes Opened on Rte. 287N after Thursday Accident

But traffic remained delayed for hours.

All lanes have been reopened along Route 287 north as of before 8 a.m. on Thursday, following an earlier crash near milepost 31 in Harding Township. However, traffic on 287 northbound continued to be delayed for hours, into the afternoon, for miles south of exit 30. The accident had left a tractor trailer overturned as of 7 a.m. Thursday, according to police. At that time, traffic was being diverted off Route 287 northbound at exit 30, said state police in Somerville barracks. Fatal Thanksgiving Crash Still Under Investigation

20-year-old woman killed in I-78 crash identified as Florida resident.

State police in Trenton say an investigation continues into the one-car crash along Interstate 78 early Thanksgiving morning that killed a Somerville mother, injured her two sons, and killed another woman from Florida. The two brothers remained hospitalized on Monday. One of the women who died, Natasha Melendez, 20, was identified by state police Public Information Officer Sgt. Adam Grossman as being a resident of Green Acres, Fla. On Monday, Grossman said the circumstances of the accident, which also killed Tonya Gordon, 44, of Somerville, are still being actively investigated by state police, including troopers from the Somerville barracks and the fatal accident investigation unit, and also by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, …

UPDATED: Route 78 Back-Up After Truck Fire

State police report that burned truck is cleared, although traffic jam-up continued for hours.

Updated information for this story is that the accident scene was cleared out between about 7:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, state police said. State Police in Somerville said at about 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday that a tow truck that had caught fire near exit 33 on Interstate 78 westbound in Basking Ridge was expected to be removed soon from the highway. Nevertheless, traffic was backed up for several miles, reportedly as far as exit 41 in Union County, at that point. The truck fire at milepost 33.2 had been reported shortly before 5 p.m., state police said. No one was injured in the mishap, according to state police.
