National Night Out, a nationwide initiative that on a local level mixes local police with their community members, is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. that night in Ridge High School. Tuesday night's crowd of residents, firemen, police and rescue squad members — including lots of children — attended a "National Night Out" event that one of the major organizers promised will be the first of many in years to come. "From here, we make it bigger and better next year," said Al LiCata, executive director of the Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce, which co-sponsored the event along with local police in the Bernards Township PBA. New version of nationwide "Night Out" returns to Bernards Township, with plans for more.
Members of the community are dropping by at the renewed "National Night Out" that continues until 9 p.m. on Monday at Dewy Meadow Village. The community get-together is offering demonstrations of firefighting, rescue squad and police equipment (including SWAT guns) at the shopping center. A Scooby-Doo movie was about to get underway at 8 p.m. Games, free hot dogs and pizza giveways were offered to the crowd, with a huge "National Night Out" cake expected to arrive later in the evening.
