This year's National Night Out, a nationwide event for bringing together, was held on Tuesday evening, Aug. 7. Community members of all ages attended the annual event, which was presented by the Bernards Township Police PBA Local 357, and the Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Monday is last day to contribute books to annual AAUW used book sale, to be held later in the week.
Tuesday is going to be a busy night in this area. National Night Out, a nationwide initiative that on a local level mixes local police with their community members, is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. that night in Ridge High School. The Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce also will be on hand to offer activities, information and other services. Update: A movie initially planned for after the event has been canceled. The food, information and entertainment at the Bernards event is free, as is Bernardsville's version of National Night Out. The Bernardsville event starts at 6 p.m. at the Bernardsville Pool off Seney Drive. Families share in awareness and fun at what is hoped to be continuing annual event at Dewy Meadow Village shopping center.
Tuesday night's crowd of residents, firemen, police and rescue squad members — including lots of children — attended a "National Night Out" event that one of the major organizers promised will be the first of many in years to come. "From here, we make it bigger and better next year," said Al LiCata, executive director of the Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce, which co-sponsored the event along with local police in the Bernards Township PBA. New version of nationwide "Night Out" returns to Bernards Township, with plans for more.
Members of the community are dropping by at the renewed "National Night Out" that continues until 9 p.m. on Monday at Dewy Meadow Village. The community get-together is offering demonstrations of firefighting, rescue squad and police equipment (including SWAT guns) at the shopping center. A Scooby-Doo movie was about to get underway at 8 p.m. Games, free hot dogs and pizza giveways were offered to the crowd, with a huge "National Night Out" cake expected to arrive later in the evening.
