Baseball, Softball Stars to Hold Coaching Seminars

The sessions, with Kevin Long and Jessica Mendoza, will be held at Zoned Sports Academy.

Zoned Sports Academy is holding two coaching seminars this month with an Olympic medalist and a New York Yankee preparing to teach participants the finer points of baseball and softball. The first session will be held with Kevin Long, the hitting coach for the defending American League East Division Champion New York Yankees. There will be a coaching seminar Friday, and a hitting seminar and clinic on Saturday. “Kevin Long is widely recognized as one of the premier hitting coaches in all of professional baseball,” said Brian Santaniello, manager at Zoned. “His hitting philosophy and methods, while extremely effective, are also extremely simple and basic. Tobin Heath, U.S. Women's Soccer Defeat N. Korea

Basking Ridge's Tobin Heath on field as U.S. women's soccer captures third Olympic victory.

The U.S. women's soccer team, with Tobin Heath on the field, captured the team's third victory in the summer Olympic games underway in London, defeating North Korea, 1-0. Heath, a 2006 graduate of Ridge High School, filled a midfielder position during the game. Abby Wambach scored the lone goal that decided the game, leading the team into the quarterfinals. So far, U.S. women's soccer has defeated France, Colombia and now the women's soccer team from North Korean during the Olympic games. Heath, who also played in last year's World Cup game, has her hometown fans on her turf in Basking Ridge.
