Basking Ridge resident Fred Rossi blogs on video as he leaves Heathrow Airport.
Local chiropractor Dr. Fred Rossi, who accompanied the U.S. freestyle men's wrestling team to London and provided spinal adjustments for the team — which came home with two gold medals and other achievements — has topped off his Olympics blog with a video produced before he boarded the plane to return home to New Jersey. Rossi, who lives in Basking Ridge with his wife and two children and has two offices, in Long Hill Township and Phillipsburg, was with the wrestling team for the duration of their competition. He filed blogs that were followed on the Basking Ridge Patch as he chronicled his time with the team. On the last day of the Olympic games, Sunday, Basking Ridge chiropractor Fred Rossi prepared to head to the match where U.S. freestyle men's wrestler Jake Varner would face a Ukranian opponent in a competition for the gold. "Last match of the Olympics put Jake Varner against Ukraine," Rossi wrote on his blog, which he has been keeping since he headed to the Olympics on Aug. 5 to keep the team's spines adjusted. "Would be a great way to end the olympic experience. Either way it has been an experience worth blogging about," Rossi wrote in his notes, which have been accompanied by photos and some video. Somerset County 4-H Fair draws thousands, despite sporadic rain.
The Planning Board last Thursday heard the opening of the formal presentation of plans for a 4,200-square-foot new mosque building at 124 Church Street in the Liberty Corner section. The plan conforms to local zoning for the four-acre lot in a residential zone, but there were questions from the audience, and some board members, about the expected membership at the planned house of worship and hours tht the mosque would be open. Residents also questioned the source funding for the new facility, although the planning board's chairman advised that is not relevant for the hearing before the board. U.S. women's soccer team beats Japan 2-1 Thursday in London.
It was evening in London, afternoon in New Jersey—and a golden moment in Basking Ridge. Ridge High School graduate Tobin Heath, class of 2006, was a member of the U.S. women's soccer team that won gold shortly after 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in a victory over Japan, 2-1. It was a reversal of the U.S. team's loss to Japan in last year's World Cup, a match-up in which Heath, a midfielder, also took part. Thursday's tooth-and-nail play in the final Olympic game was seen as somewhat of "sweet revenge" against Japan, as in this account on Yahoo Sports. The U.S. women's soccer team fell behind in Monday's semifinal Olympics match against rival Canada, but the battle of north vs. south ultimately went to the U.S., which scored a 4-3 victory in a game with Basking Ridge's Tobin Heath filling a solid spot as midfielder. Ridge High girls soccer coach says watching an Olympian who once wore the same soccer uniform is "amazing thing."
The U.S. Women's Soccer Team has knocked off the New Zealand team 2-0 with an assist from former Basking Ridge resident Tobin Heath, and now moves on to the semifinal on Monday against the winner of a Great Britain vs. Canada match. The U.S. team is undefeated, 4-0, following the Friday morning game against the New Zealand game, played in Newcastle, England. Midfielder Heath, a 2006 graduate of Ridge High School, assisted Sydney Leroux with a second-half goal that clinched the game for the U.S., according to a play-by-play on ussoccer.com.
