Devils play to last second shot but go down by 49-46 in title game, in team's second loss of the season.
The Ridge High School boys basketball team knew they would be facing a tough opponent when they traveled to No. 1 seed Linden Monday evening to play for the North 2, Group 4 state championship. Playing in a hostile environment for the first time in the playoffs in the sold-out Linden High School gym, Ridge's players gave it their all but came up short by just three points, despite an opportunity in last few seconds. It looked like it would be a long night for the Devils when Linden went up 8-0 just minutes into the game. "It could have been a 20-point game really quick, but this team is made up of fighters and (we) just keep coming at you and coming at you," said Ridge head coach Brian Feath. And Ridge would storm back to tie the game at 8…

A defensive battle throughout, decisive fourth quarter secures semifinal win for Ridge.
Ridge and Bridgewater-Raritan high schools have a storied and celebrated rivalry across all sports. Friday night, the Red Devils and Panthers faced off in the North 2, Group 4 boys basketball semifinal to determine who would go to the state championship game Monday night. Ridge ended up taking the game, albeit it would take a 4th quarter surge by the Devils to seal the deal at 43-32. Ridge and Bridgewater both played magnificent defensive games throughout the night as evidenced by the low score through the end of the third quarter. But a last-second 3-point basket by Jake Mahon would spark the Devils in the fourth quarter. "When they gave the ball to me, time was running down so I figured why not shoot it, lucky enough it went in," said …

Despite lacking the finesse on the court the team showed last Saturday, the Red Devils win decisively in first round of state playoffs.
In a 19-point win that lacked the refined teamwork of last Saturday's Somerset County tournament win, the Ridge High School Red Devils won their N2G4 first-round states basketball game Monday night against Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Ridge faced a strong inside defense in their visiting opponent and had some trouble getting started from the field. "This time of year, a win is a win, you win and you advance," said Ridge head coach Brian Feath. "Obviously, we had a bit of a letdown from Saturday. It is something we talked about, but we didn't respond very well. We'll take the win and move on." (North 2 Group 4) Ridge scoring came from eight players led by senior guard Eric Klacik with 15 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity …

The Ridge High School boys basketball team hit the courts Saturday looking to avenge their only loss of the 2013 season against the one team that beat them — longtime county rival Gill St. Bernard's from Peapack-Gladstone. Now on the big stage, battling for the Somerset County Championship, Ridge would go on to play a near perfect game for a 69-56 victory against the star-laden and strong Gill squad. Ridge players knew they had to play better than they did just nine days ago when Gill broke their unbeaten streak in a regular season game. "I think it was good that we had that loss," said Red Devil Matt Gerrity. "It brought us together even more." "It is all mental. We prepared like we were going to win the game," said Lane Legband. "Coach […

Defensive struggle from both teams nets low scoring result
The Ridge High School boys basketball team bounced back Saturday after its first loss of the season with a victory over Hillsborough in the semifinals of the Somerset County Tournament. The two rivals met for the first time this season to vie for a berth in the Somerset County championship game. The hallmarks of both teams are their tenacious defenses. Hillsborough was led by the powerful Matt Hornich whose strength and height affected Ridge's inside game. He was also the game's high scorer, putting in 13 points. Jalen Parham would add 8 points for the Raiders. "Our key was to have the ball inside the paint," said Ridge coach Brian Feath. "These were two great defensive teams. Our focus was to just attack, attack, attack." Big man …
